John King has seen it all, through working as a platinum-record producer since the mid ’80s, with the likes of The Beastie Boys, Beck and Tenacious D. Film soundtrack work for Fight Club and video game scoring have further widened his portfolio, and these days, he spends his time stamping his signature sound on everything from Devo's forthcoming album to video game soundtracks.

John's gear collection is as impressive as his catalogue of production credits. From rare vintage synths and effects processors to guitars and mics, he has almost everything a producer would ever want, and he admits that, although he loves gear of all kinds, he no longer routinely buys it, becuase he's got enough already.

One new addition to John's studio, however, is the Novation Launchpad, which he uses to control Ableton Live. "This is more in tune with the way that I make music. I am so excited about it, and I can't wait to become an expert at using it."
